Weather

We have been documenting temperatures and rainfall for almost two decades here at Bestbrook and it's fascinating to see how specific our micro-climate actually is. Nature often has the last word at harvest time, which is is why our motto is to 'underpromise and overdeliver'.

How Climate controls our Crops:

Peony flowering can be directly affected by temperature: heat will bring them on just as much as a run of unseasonally cold weather can delay them, particularly during November.

Damsons will suffer from skin cracking after heavy rain when the fruit is nearly ripe: fortunately February rainfall is usually low.

Rhubarb is affected by the heat we normally experience in mid to late November: harvesting is best completed before then.

Globemaster bulbs need ample chilling to form the new season's flowerbuds: winter has sufficient frosts to ensure consistent flowering.
