Our most vivid Autumn leaf colours
develop during an 'Indian Summer', when the days are sunny and cloudless, while the nights are chilly rather than frosty. It is this specific combination of temperature and sunlight that encourages the best Autumn display of deciduous trees. An 'Indian Summer' is a prolonged period of sunny, frost-free weather after the Autumn equinox (March 21). Unfortunately our local climate is prone to sudden frosts which can burn the leaves causing them to drop, though some years the colours will last through to mid-May.
